The City

School bus honks relentlessly
till the child sleep walks into it
Milkman’s bike splutter
and the tin lid of milk can, slam bangs
Young jogger’s run by, leaving behind
group of silvers catching up breaths
A maid scurries by
stepping on the moments
faster than they slip
The multi-storey building comes alive
Kitchens playing symphony
Of cooker whistles and dropped lids
A vegetable seller calls out in between
A dog on leash
taking his human to walk
Shrill sound of ambulance siren
silenced by a long conch sound
hand bell waking up Gods
and heart putting up the pledge
Bunch of school going boys
teasing,laughing ,kicking,shrieking
Sky trumbles as the plane roar
startling the singing birds
filling the space with wings flutter
Cleaning woman mopes the road
Scratching the silence away
Someone’s call bell rang
‘Coming’ - echoed a voice
Hawkers screaming their lungs out
bringing all sorts of ease to the doors
A vehicle full of speakers blasting
Promising to execute some nuisance
…………and the city breathes in sounds !!!
